Toni & Guy *Urban Academy* -Orientation
It's finally here! November 2nd I start my journey at Toni & Guy hairdressing academy...I am extremely upset because I wanted to do the makeup course only. But unfortunately fin. Aid doesn't cover it, so I ended up having to do the whole cosmetology program AND can't start messing with makeup until effin JUNE ugh. I am definitely not wanting to do hair but it's whatever I suppose. Yesterday I had my orientation, it went well. Lots of information and resources to ensure success...although if you are the type that gets sick, so sick that your almost unable to lift a finger (me), your going to need serious discipline to make it there. I can already tell that dedicting my life to school for 10 months straight, 5 days a week is going to be difficult. Basically if you miss a day, or three...not only do you have to start all over again, you also have to pay 20 bucks an hour. I hope and pray that I can make it through because lord knows I am not trying to pay the federal government back 18k because I dropped out. Nor am I trying to pay them more money to start over and re-learn. STRESS! And NO LIFE..... for 10 months...wish me luck!

Basics: Contouring, Highlighting and Blush!

Give your face natural looking color and depth using contour, highlight and blush. Do this after you've applied your foundation and face powder. Contour is a dark shade, usually a brown color, and is used to make parts of your face recede, while highlight is a light shade, often white, and is used to make parts of your face protrude more. Using these gives your face more of a 3D effect. Blush is simply used to give your cheeks a healthy glow.
Use an angled contour brush and lightly dab it into your contour shade. Tap the brush to get rid of excess powder.
Apply the contour right under your cheek bones. One way to locate your cheek bones is to make a fish face. Wherever your cheeks are sucked in the most is where you should apply contour. Use a small circular motion to apply. This will make blending it easier. Start to apply it in front of your ears, then bring it towards the corners of your mouth and jaw line, as shown in the picture. Bring the contour up to your temples. If you want, you can bring it up to the highest part of your forehead to frame your face. Apply the contour to the sides of your nose. Blend it into your cheeks.
Now for the highlight! You can use the same contour brush to apply the highlight shade. Make sure there is no leftover contour powder on it. Dab your brush into your highlight shade and tap off the excess powder.
One rule to follow when applying your highlight shade is to apply it wherever light reflects on your face. Typically, above your cheek bones, the bridge of your nose, the center of your forehead and the front of your chin. Using the same circular motion used to apply the contour, apply the highlight shade right above your cheek bones, on the front of your cheeks. If you want, you may also apply your highlight color at the center of your forehead and chin.
Now for the blush!
Use a duo fibre or stippled brush to give your face an air-brushed look, but any regular blush brush will do. Dab the brush into your blush and tap off the excess powder. Now smile big!!! This will help locate the apples of your cheeks. Apply your blush right on the apples of your cheeks and bring it towards your ears. Make sure it is blended well with your highlight above and contour below.
And your done!!!! :)

Basic: Concealer
Some of the most famous makeup artists the concealer is the most important makeup product and it is one thing you should never skip, because we all want to have flawless complexion. The concealer is one of the smooth-skin essentials. Its purpose is to cover the dark circles under the eyes or redness caused by broken capillaries. The concealers come in both water-and oil-based types. There are several types of concealer:
Stick concealer:
The stick concealer usually comes as a lipstick type tube. The stick concealers provide direct on-the-spot application. It is appropriate for mild pigmentations and discolorations. Apply it directly on larger spots or areas, and blend it carefully. It isn't appropriate for hiding dark circles under the eyes.
Tube concealer:
It is softer than the creams but is usually very oily. The texture is thinner and creamier than stick concealers and works up like foundation. The Tube concealers must be applied with a domed brush. Tube concealers tend to be greasier and collect in fine lines, so use it sparingly and blend it in slightly by tapping with your ring finger or with a sponge.
Cream concealer:
The cream concealers blend better and stay longer. The concealer is easily applied with a sponge or fingers. It is best for minimizing under eye circles, hiding blemishes and camouflaging skin imperfections. It won't crease, slip around or bleed.
Useful Beauty Tips:
First apply the foundation and then apply the concealer otherwise you may smudge it away when you blend your base make sure you dab or patch the concealer on,never wipe or rub it make sure the concealer matches your skin tone don't use foundation or concealer to shade or highlight the face into a special shape unless a special look is required, instead use blush to shape the face. The right shade of concealer is a shade lighter than your skin to hide acne pits, apply the concealer into the pits, using a fine brush don't apply more than two coats of concealer. For hiding birthmarks and sun spots you will probably need a combination of concealer and foundation while the concealer is still damp, immediately apply powder in order to set, seal and dry the concealer. A concealer with white shade brightens dull skin and makes the skin look healthy.
A concealer with blue shade whitens a reddish complexion.
A concealer with rose or peachy shade gives the skin a glow.
A concealer with green shade helps cover up redness caused by pimples or broken veins.
Drier concealers are better for covering up the face and the creamier concealers are better for more delicate areas such as the nose, the mouth and under-eye area.
A bad one is white, pink, chalky, dry or greasy because they can highlight the flaws.
A good one is smooth, creamy, yellow-based, it blends easily into the skin and makes you look instantly better and brighter.
Hope this helped!

Cool vs Warm

Warm colors are based on yellows, oranges, browns, yellowish greens, orangish reds, and the like.
Cool colors are based on blues, greens, pinks, purples, blue-greens, magentas, and blue-based reds.
Once you have a basic understanding, you can then differentiate between for example, a "warm pink" and a "cool pink". A warm pink is a peachy pink. A cool pink would be a purplish pink. A warm green would be a yellowish green. A cool green would be more blue.
A warm toned foundation powder is more yellow based. A cool toned one is more pink.
When you hear someone say "I am an autumn" or "I am a spring", this means that they look best in warm tones. In contrast, "summers" and "winters" look best in cool tones. (this is based on the Color Me Beautiful method of skin typing).
Looking at blushes? As a rule, any blush with a brown or peach undertone is warm. Any blush with a purple or pink undertone is cool. Some colors can work for both skintones, such as a peachy pink or a pinkish brown.
Keep in mind that computer monitors all vary in how they display colors. The best best is to try a few samples and see how they compare, or find a local MAC, Sephora or drug store where you can swatch different colors.
If you do not know your skintone, you can estimate it by referring to the following chart:
Cool: Eyes are typically blue or grey. Haircolor typically blonde, brown or black. Skin has definite blue and pinkish undertones. Cool-toned people look best in colors such as blue, red, pink and purple, or "gem-tones". Usually look best in silver jewelry. In natural light, the color of the veins on the underside of your wrist are bluish. You can wear a white shirt and it is flattering on you.
Neutral: Eyes may be any color. Hair may be any color. Skin has unspecifiable undertones, such as pink, olive or yellow. Those with neutral coloring can wear just about any color clothing and look good. Can wear gold or silver jewelry (no preference as to which looks better)
Warm: Eyes are typically brown, green or hazel. Haircolor typically brown, black, red, auburn, blonde or strawberry blonde. Skin has yellow/orange or olive undertones. Warm-toned people look best in earthy-toned clothing, such as browns, yellows, oranges, yellowish green and ecru. Look best in gold jewelry. In natural light, the color of the veins on the underside of your wrist are greenish. You are most flattered by an off-white, cream or ecru shirt (i.e. pure white makes you look washed out)

Buffalo Chicken Mac n Cheese
Ingredients
3/4 pound applewood smoked bacon
1 pound chicken tenderloins
1/2 cup beer
1 pound dry elbow macaroni
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, plus 2 tablespoons, plus more for baking dish
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/3 cup all-purpose flour, plus 1 cup
3 cups whole milk, plus 2 tablespoons
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 cups grated white Cheddar, divided
3 cups grated mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
2/3 cup hot sauce (recommended: Frank's Red Hot)
1 cup panko bread crumbs
Sliced carrots and celery, for serving
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Coat bottom and sides of a 13 by 9-inch baking dish with butter.
Arrange the bacon on an aluminum foil lined sheet pan and bake until crisp, about 22 minutes. Allow to cool and coarsely chop.
Put the chicken and beer in a large bowl and let marinate, at room temperature, for 20 minutes.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium heat. Add the macaroni and cook stirring occasionally, until cooked al dente, about 6 to 7 minutes. Drain and reserve in a large pot or mixing bowl.
Melt 1/2 cup butter in a large saucepan over medium heat; whisk in the garlic and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden. Whisk in 1/3 cup flour and cook until golden, about 1 minute. Whisk in 3 cups milk, the salt and the pepper, and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently. Add 2 cups of the Cheddar and 2 cups of the mozzarella (reserving additional cheese for topping) and stir until melted, about 2 minutes.
Stir the cheese sauce, blue cheese and bacon into the macaroni until well combined; pour evenly into the prepared baking dish and smooth the surface.
Put the remaining 1 cup of flour in a medium-sized shallow mixing bowl. In another medium-sized shallow mixing bowl, add the remaining 2 tablespoons milk and the egg and whisk until combined. Drain the beer from the chicken tenderloins and dip into the flour to coat well, then dip into the egg mixture and back into the flour. Put on a plate until ready to fry.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Working in 2 batches, fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Remove to paper towels to drain. Add the chicken and hot sauce to a large bowl and toss until well coated. Carefully slice the chicken into bite-sized strips. (Avoid knocking off the batter).
Evenly top the macaroni with the sliced chicken, and drizzle with additional hot sauce, if desired. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup of white Cheddar and the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the top of the chicken and sprinkle with the panko bread crumbs. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and drizzle it evenly over the bread crumbs. Bake at 400 degrees F until golden brown and bubbly, about 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool 10 minutes before serving. Serve with celery and carrot sticks, if desired.

So, meal two was awesome! Baked chicken with 1/2 an apple and of course water! Round 2 of pills was cool, a little bit of nausea but not bad. No jitters but no energy. Meal 3 and round 3 of pills is comin up in an hour or so but I'm not hungry! Idk if I'm gonna take the pills alone because they are making me so nauseous. Maybe I'll just do a small baked or boiled potato with a little pepper like yesterday? Idk we'll see how my stomach feels later. Update you this evening after last meal, last pills and exercise! :)

QT Day 2
Since I forgot to update you after meal 4 / 4th set of pills and exercise...... Fourth meal was ok, I had baked tilapia and steamed broccoli. 4th set of pills was ok, no jitters or anything for a while. I did my exercise after then, showered and went to bed. I woke up about midnight shaking like a crazy and really nauseous. I already know its because of lack of sugar in my diet. Hopefully it will get better.
DAY 2
BREAKFAST TODAY IS SAME AS YESTERDAY, "HIGH CARB" AS PER THE GUIDELINES IN THE BOOKLET. 6 BILED EG WHITE *GAG* AND 1/3 CUP OATMEAL, AGAIN *GAG* OATMEAL WITH NO SUGAR EWWW! SO FAR SO GOOD NO NAUSEA AT ALL, HOPEFULLY IT WILL STAY THAT WAY. NO JITTERS AND YET IN DAY 2 STILL NO POOP FROM YESTERDAYS PILLS. WHAT'S GOIN ON? I SHOULD HAVE POOPED BY NOW.
I READ A COUPLE OF REVIEWS THAT SAID THE PILLS DID NOTHING BUT BACK THEM UP AND THEY WERE 2.5 POUNDS HEAVIER THAN WHEN THEY STARTED. Update Day 1
My energy level hasn't changed, the shaking is still here. The cold blood and tingling skin did go away. I'm currently on meal 3/ 3rd set of pills. No nausea... Hopefully it stays that way. Haven't thrown up anymore and still haven't pooped? Have drank much water today, I need to though. Water flushes out your lungs and since this is a cleanse, I need to flush those out asap. Anyways, stay tuned for meal 4/ 4th set of pills and my workout! :)

QT Day 1
I wish I could say so far so good, but not today. After taking the first two am pills I felt really nauseous. The label says if you feel nauseous to take with food, I ate my breakfast. I was fine for a while, until my first set of pm pills.... Maybe about 20 minutes later I was throwing up my breakfast. I had to eat my lunch right away because I was shaking so bad. I am still shaking and it feels like there is stuff crawling under my skin and my blood is cold, but I have more energy than usual. Maybe the day will get better? I HOPE! Nothing has come out the back end yet, but when it does I'm prepared! If any of you are considering taking this 14 day cleanse I think you drink the suggested amount of water, only because when you poop and/or throw up you get really dehydrated. Hopefully my third set of pills and my 3rd meal will go better, maybe this is why you have to eat so much. Maybe throwing up while taking this is all too common?
After the third meal you have 4 hours to wait til 4th meal, I may not do 3rd meal. It just depends how I feel after taking the 3rd set of pills. Idk?!
After 4th meal you wait about 3 hours to exercise and take the 4th set of pills.....
I will update you after 3rd and 4th meal and after exercise.
Stay tuned :)

Does QT really work?

As we all know QT is endorsed by the Kardashian sisters.... Do you trust their opinion??? I don't; but I am tired of carrying around this extra weight so I am here to blog for you and give my honest opinion, without being bribed with money ;). The first step of the program is the 14 day burn and cleanse... It's a two part system consisting of iso-burn am: is supposed to jump start your diet, burn calories by day, and enhance your energy level; iso-cleanse pm: is supposed to cleanse by night, reduces bloating, and helps detox your body...and you also have to follow a daily diet and exercise program. You are supposed to take 8 pills a day. That sounds a bit excessive...what do you think??? 4 meals a day 3 hours apart...exercise in the am and pm...BLAH BLAH BLAH...I'm going to track my progress and keep you updated throughout the day, every day.
The exercise program they suggest doesn't seem like it would work for me, because it doesnt involve much activity. So I decided to take it a step higher and do P90x along with this diet program. Lets see what happens..... WISH ME LUCK!
Ms. Royston <3
p.s IF I AM SUCCESSFUL IN THE 14 DAY BURN AND CLEANSE I WILL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT STEP UNTIL I MEET MY GOAL...THE PRODUCT LINE UP GOES AS FOLLOWS.. 14 DAY CLEANSE, EXTREME BURN, CELLUSLIM, AND FAST CLEANSE 48 HOUR DIET... I WONT NEED CELLUSLIM BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE CELLULITE AND IF ALL GOES WELL AS FAR AS "STEP 2" (EXTREME BURN) I WONT NEED THE FAST CLEANSE EITHER....

Margarita Shrimp and Scallops Recipe
Marinade:
4 limes, juiced
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons gold tequilla
1 tablespoon orange flavored liqueur (recommended: Triple Sec)
2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro leaves
Pinch salt and freshly ground black pepper
12 (U-15) shrimp and 6 very large sea scallops, cut in 1/2 or 12 smaller sea scallops
12 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Salsa:
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1 medium mango, peeled and flesh diced
1 tomato, seeded and diced
2 scallions, green part only, diced
1 jalapeno, seeded and diced
1 tablespoon freshly chopped cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon diced Vidalia onion
10 mint leaves, chopped
2 limes, juiced
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for garnish
1 tablespoon mirin
Pinch salt and freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Pink salt, for garnish
First preheat the grill to medium.
Add all the marinade ingredients to a large bowl and stir to combine. Add the shrimp and scallops and set the bowl aside. Next, add all the salsa ingredients to a serving bowl and mix well.
Remove the shrimp and scallops from the marinade. Put a scallop in the 'U' (curved part of the shrimp) of the shrimp and skewer, first through the scallop and then through the shrimp. Arrange the skewers on the hot grill and cook approximately 2 1/2 to 3 minutes on 1 side, then turn and grill for 2 1/2 minutes on the other side. When done, remove the skewers from the grill to a serving dish. Drizzle with some extra-virgin olive oil and sprinkle with pink salt. Serve with the salsa and enjoy!"

"Take It Take It Baby Baby Take It Take It Love Me Love Me"
I think it's official, Rihanna has redeemed herself to me. After the whole Chris Brown thing I was kind of on the "eff that bitch team." After finally deciding to download Rated R, I listened to it in its entirety! There were a few songs that irritated me just because it was Rihanna.... I'm still not team Rihanna but I am impressed with her come back. "Russian Roulette" genius *big ups to Ne-Yo*, what some people would do for love right? "Hard" genius song, I just dont feel Rihanna should be the one to sing it..... "Rude Boy" I absolutely love this song, it's tune is so catchy. It makes you wanna blast it and take some pics/vid doin a sexy dance for your significant other on some real freak bitch stuff! *LOL* The video for it, I could do without! What's with the "africanness" goin on in it? In "Hard" she was brazillian getting fan mail from 27 million and now she is african and dry humping a lion? hmmm...? I'm not the biggest fan of Rihanna videos to begin with, maybe she should just stick to the album and SOME pictures **she needs to eat something**...eff the videos, they are kind of dumb! I think her best and the only one that makes sense is "Russian Roulette." The only thing that I DON'T like about the "Russian Roulette" video is the who water scene, I'm pretty sure I saw that same thing in Beyonce's "Halo" video....just saying...anyways.... What do you all think of her latest video??

GUESS WHO'S BACK
HEY!!!
THE LAST BLOG I HAD GOT SHUT DOWN! PURE BULLSHIT! LAST TIME I BLOGGED ABOUT FOOD AND RECIPES...THIS TIME, I WAS THINKING ABOUT BLOGGING ABOUT THE NEW FOUND DIVA IN ME! ;)
I'VE ALWAYS DRESSED UP, BUT I DRESS FOR THE OCCASION..IF I'M GOING OUT DINNER - CLUB I DRESS UP! HAIR, MAKE-UP, HEELS, DRESS/DRESSY ATTIRE AND ALL THAT EXTRA SHIT... IF I'M GOING TO A GAME-MOVIES I DRESS DOWN! SNEAKERS, JEANS, T-SHIRT/TANK, MINIMAL MAKE-UP AND A PONYTAIL, NO EXTRA SHIT.
LATELY, I'VE BEEN DRESSING UP! WORK, GAMES ETC.... MY NEW ATTITUDE DRESS AS IF EVERYDAY WERE A FASHION SHOW! AHH, BUT WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL THOSE SNEAKERS??? WEAR THEM DUH! LOL THERE IS STILL A LITTLE SNEAKER HEAD LIVING INSIDE ME, AND SHE WILL NEVER DIE! WHAT KIND OF PERSON DOESN'T WEAR SNEAKERS? HA! YOU CAN STILL BE A DIVA AND WEAR SNEAKERS! REMEMBER THIS! IT'S NOT WHAT YOU WEAR, ITS HOW YOU ROCK IT! *ROCKI* TRUST ME!!
THE NEWEST FORM OF DIVA THAT IS TRYING TO ENTER ME IS "THE NATURAL HAIR DIVA." I CURRENTLY DO NOT WEAR WIGS/EXTENSIONS OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, I JUST USED A STRAIGHTENER SO MUCH IN 2009 THAT MY HAIR HAS LITTLE TO NO CURL UNLESS I USE MOUSSE, GEL AND CURL SPRY =( I MISS IT!
THERE ARE TWO METHODS TO CHOOSE FROM WHEN GOING NATURAL! WHEN CHOOSING YOU HAVE TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO GO THE MORE DRAMATIC OR THE LESS DRAMATIC WAY..... THE MORE DRAMATIC WAY TO GO WOULD BE DOING "THE BIG CHOP" MEANING SHAVING YOUR HEAD BALD. *BITES FINGER NAILS* ALTHOUGH I HAVE FOUND MYSELF TO BE A BIT ON THE DRAMATIC DIVA SIDE LATELY (BIG HAIR/ DRAMATIC MAKEUP) I'M NOT SO SURE HOW I WOULD LOOK WITH A BALD HEAD.
THE SECOND LESS DRAMATIC METHOD IS "TRANSITIONING" MEANING YOUR GOING FROM A PERMED OR HEAT DAMAGED/STRAIGHTENED STATE TO A NEW NATURAL STATE. WITH THIS METHOD, WHEN YOU HAVE NEW GROWTH YOUR HAIR WILL HAVE TWO DIFFERENT TEXTURES CURLY- STRAIGHT....SOME PEOPLE MAY NOT LIKE THIS LOOK...AND MAY MASK IT BY USING A CURLING IRON OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF HEAT SOURCE, WHICH IS A BAD IDEA. AS MORE NEW GROWTH COMES IN THE MORE HEAT WILL HAVE TO BE APPLIED THEN YOUR BACK WHERE YOU STARTED. IF YOUR GOING TO GO THIS ROUTE I WOULD SUGGEST USING GELS OR SOME TYPE OF HAIR LOTION OR POMADE TO MASK THE NEW GROWTH UNTIL IT IS LONG ENOUGH TO TRIM THE STRAIGHT ENDS OFF...?
I AM DEFINITELY NOT A NATURAL HAIR EXPERT, BUT I HAVE BEEN DOING MY RESEARCH. I FELT IT IMPORTANT TO RESEARCH METHODS AND NATURAL HAIR CARE PRODUCTS AS THIS IS A HUGE DECISION! I AM LEANING MORE TOWARD "THE BIG CHOP" METHOD ONLY BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IF I'M NOT LIKING HOW LONG THE NEW GROWTH IS TAKING I MAY START USING MY FLAT IRON AGAIN. WITH "THE BIG CHOP" METHOD THERE WILL BE NO HAIR TO F**K WITH AND I WILL JUST HAVE TO LEAVE IT BE! AND, THERE ARE ALWAYS DIFFERENT WIGS YOU CAN PLAY WITH WHILE YOUR WAITING FOR SOME GROWTH! =)
MAYBE SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME WITH MY DECISION, OR OFFER ADVICE/ STORIES/ THOUGHTS ABOUT NATURAL HAIR AND WHICH METHOD TO USE!
THANKS FOR READING!
